Physicist with a strong background in optics, microscopy, and complex phenomena. Her research draws from several fields (microscopy, neural networks, and systems neuroscience) and techniques (calcium imaging, multisensory stimulation, parallel computing, and machine learning) that she has combined throughout the years. Since 2018, her research was mainly focused on studies at the interface between physics and neuroscience, with neural network modeling of brain wiring and functions both in artificial NNs and in biological systems (C.elegans nervous system). She is currently working as a project manager of D-Tails, where she manages and coordinates a multidisciplinary team to develop a C-elegans based biosensor for the early detection of cancer in urine samples.
Associate
Professor (since 2019) and Assistant Professor (2011-2019) at Sapienza
University of Rome Post-doc
at the Rockefeller University, New York, USA (2007-2010) PhD
in Genetics and Molecular Biology (2007)
Molecular
biologist interested in the characterization of molecular mechanisms
underlying human genetic diseases. His
research activity is based on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and gene
editing technologies for modeling neurodegenerative and neuro-developmental
diseases in vitro, supported by several national and international grants. As
of January 2022, he is author of 58 publications in international peer-reviewed
journals and two patents, with an h-index of 22 and about 3,000 citations
(Scopus and WOS). He is a scientific collaborator of D-Tails for the
generation, by gene editing, of modified yeast lines for cancer detection
applications.
